Go-Paddle: An Introduction to Sea Kayaking in the UK.
Description
The British Isles has some of the most scenic and accessible coastline within Europe and one of the best ways of exploring this wilderness is by sea kayak. With over 6000 separate islands and 18,000km of coastline, the coastal waters of Britain offer a tremendous playground for sea kayakers of all ability levels. Whether you are an experienced paddler interested in self sustained island hopping trips, a sealife enthusiast or a surf junky you have no excuse for not being in your kayak on a regular basis (although it can get a bit chilly sometimes).

Many peoples first experience of canoeing is at a beach on their summer holidays. Whilst this experience may wet the appetite it cannot compare to the magnificent scenery and sense of isolation available to an experienced sea kayaker. It goes without saying the the sea is a hostile environment and sea kayakers, more than any other paddlesport enthusiasts are completely reliant upon their equipment, navigational expertise and knowledge of meterology.

How Do I Get Involved?
Before venturing onto the sea in your kayak it is essential that you have achieved a certain level of proficiency and have mastered all the basic paddle strokes, ideally with a reliable eskimo roll and experience of self rescue techniques. It is also essential that your initial sea kayaking experience is undertaken in sheltered waters with other experienced paddlers who have experience of the local coastline, currents and weather systems. Such paddlers can usually be found by contacting your local canoe club. If you are completely new to sea kayaking you would be well advised to go on a beginners sea kayaking course or even book a sea kayaking holiday giving you the opportunity to learn the basic skills in a warm, more forgiving coastal environment amongst like minded canoeing enthusiasts.
